WHY STUDY IN THE USA?
US universities consistently occupy over 50% of the top 100 spots in QS World University Rankings 2026. But rankings are just one reason. Here's what makes the USA stand apart for Indian students:
Global Recognition
An American degree is recognised and respected by employers worldwide — opening doors across industries, continents, and career paths.
STEM OPT — Work Up to 3 Years After Graduation
STEM students get 3 years of Optional Practical Training (OPT) — 12 months standard OPT plus a 24-month STEM OPT extension — meaning 3 years to work in the US without needing immediate company visa sponsorship.
H-1B Visa Pathway
The USA has the largest H-1B quota globally, with top tech companies sponsoring thousands of Indian engineers and professionals every year.
On-Campus Work From Day One
F-1 students can work up to 20 hours per week on campus from the very first day of their studies.
Massive Indian Alumni Network
Over 4 million Indian-Americans, including senior leaders at Google, Microsoft, Adobe, and IBM, form a powerful support network for new students.
Research & Innovation
US universities provide access to multi-billion dollar research budgets, particularly in AI, Biotechnology, and Renewable Energy — giving students unparalleled exposure to cutting-edge work.
High Salaries
Entry-level salaries for STEM graduates in the US currently average between USD 75,000 and USD 110,000.
Types of Student Visas
Student visas for the USA from India include three broad types: F, J, and M student visas.
F-1 Visa — Academic Student Visa
The most common visa for Indian students pursuing bachelor's, master's, or doctoral programs at SEVP-approved universities. Those on F-1 visas may have eligibility for up to 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduating, extendable by 24 months for STEM graduates.
J-1 Visa — Exchange Visitor Visa
For visiting scholars, exchange students, Fulbright scholars, and short-term academic programs. Accompanying spouses can travel on the J-2 visa and may work if permission is obtained in advance
For students pursuing vocational and technical training programs. M-1 visa holders are not allowed to work throughout the duration of their stay.
M-1 Visa — Vocational Student Visa
To be eligible for an F-1 student visa, you must:
Secure admission at a SEVP-approved US institution and receive your Form I-20
Demonstrate sufficient financial ability to fund your education and living expenses
Show strong ties to India and genuine intent to return after studies
Meet English language requirements (IELTS/TOEFL)
Clear the immigration medical examination if required
Appear for a visa interview at the US Consulate in India
Financial Requirement:
Students must typically show liquid funds covering at least one year of total costs, including the I-20 tuition amount and estimated living expenses—usually ranging from USD 20,000 to USD 40,000 or more, depending on the university and location. Acceptable evidence includes recent bank statements, education loan sanction letters, fixed deposits, sponsor affidavits, income proofs, and scholarship or assistantship letters.
